THEATRE FOR YOUTH PROGRAMMING

The Theatre For Youth program introduces professional theatre to low-income local students, bringing students from Title I schools to Austin Playhouse for daytime and evening performances. The program focuses on quality works that challenge young audiences to explore the complex problems they are facing through multiple perspectives. Last season, the Theatre For Youth program produced its first commissioned production, "Summer and Bird," based on the acclaimed novel by local author Katherine Catmull. Now in its fifth year, Theatre for Youth has introduced over 3,000 students from more than 27 area schools to the professional theatre of Austin Playhouse.
