SATCHEL PAIGE AND THE KANSAS
Trey Ellis and Ricardo Khan
directed by Producing Artistic Director
February 12 - March 6, 2016
A jazz-infused story of passion and perserverance, Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Swing paints a vivid picture of America on the brink of great change. In the 1947 Negro Leagues, Satchel Paige is the king of baseball: an ace pitcher. But as Jackie Robinson wraps up his first historic season in the majors, Paige finds his own fame eclipsed and his desire for greater respect increasingly frustrated by the barriers all around him.
After a game between Paige's all-stars and Bob Feller's barnstormers gets rained out, the traveling teams must board up at Mrs. Hopkins' guesthouse for the night. The storm rages on, romance forms, and rivalry soon erupts. Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Swing is appropriate for adults and older teenage audiences. Though set in a boarding house, the show features baseball players who employ some locker-room behavior, including strong adult language and heightened tempers.
