The future of Austin Playhouse

Austin Playhouse is in the process of finalizing an on-going partnership agreement with Austin Community College. This partnership will offer students a professional site for instruction, internships, and service learning at Austin Playhouse. As part of this agreement, we are expanding and renovating our current venue at ACC Highland.

While we have not completely given up on our plans to build at the Mueller Redevelopment, we have begun talks with ACC regarding the eventual building of our fully designed theatre at their Highland campus instead.

This facility, designed by Dick Clark Architecture, will be an exciting and important addition to the city’s thriving cultural scene, allowing Austin Playhouse to reach an even greater number of theatre-goers in the years ahead.

What we need

We have made significant strides towards the expansion and renovation of our current facilities at ACC Highland. Renovations are currently underway enabling us to complete the current venue space.

As in everything we do, nothing is possible without the support of the greater Austin community we serve. Our goal of building a permanent, sustainable theatre remains. The total cost for land, parking, design, and construction is $4 million. Approximately $1.5 million of this project will be funded through a low-interest mortgage loan. Another $950,000 has been fundraised thus far. We need to raise an additional $1 million in donations and pledges so that we can move forward with our plans to build our theatre.

No amount is too small and several naming opportunities are still available. If you want to have a direct impact on the future of Austin Playhouse, please consider making a tax-deductible donation today, and join us in Building a Dream.
