An exciting new chapter...

The professional acting company and leadership behind Austin Playhouse have been entertaining thousands of theatre-goers for more than 20 years.

Now Austin Playhouse is building a home of its own to share with Central Texas – a larger world-class regional theatre in Mueller Town Center that will be a destination for an even greater number of theatre lovers. The space, which takes inspiration from the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, will undoubtedly become an integral and exciting addition to Austin’s thriving cultural scene.

In addition to more seats, convenient parking and improved patron services (yes, that includes more restrooms), the theatre, designed by Dick Clark Architecture, will house two stages, a bar, a rooftop terrace with an art gallery featuring exciting new works by local artists, a cafe in the lobby and a full-service restaurant for dining before or after the show, plus classroom and meeting space. This fabulous facility will be available for use by other organizations, resulting in a building that benefits the broader community as well.

Austin Playhouse will enjoy full ownership of a permanent, sustainable home, allowing us to realize the dream of building a major regional professional theatre in Austin. The entire cost for the land, parking, design, and construction is a modest $4 million. The majority of the project will be funded through a low interest mortgage loan, new market tax credits, and revenue from the restaurant space. We are seeking tax-deductible donations to close the gap of $1.5 million.
